Antiparos-Milos project: House A

Milos windmill complex consists of three individual family houses.
Located only few minutes walking distance from the port and the main square of Antiparos town, in a quiet area with stunning panoramic views of the nearby islands.
It combines the comfort being next to the town and the quietness of the rural environment.

The concept of the project is based on the principles of vernacular architecture. The climate, the solar path, the existing topography and elements of mediterranean architecture as well as the privacy between the properties were the main guidelines in the process of design.

House A is organized in two levels.

The first level in the ground floor is developed around a private yard that faces south providing natural light and ventilation to all  the rooms.

Balcony doors can be widely opened and connect physically and optically the sofa and kitchen area along with the south and east terrace, thereby maximizing the spaces and views.
The design is based on the idea that the interior becomes a continuation of the exterior, in a way that the outside spaces are thought as rooms with no roof and the indoor spaces as rooms with no walls.

This private, internal yard accommodates the outdoor activities of the house and protects the users from the North wind when it gets strong.

Kitchen area is located in the center of the house.

Our intention, in the process of design, was to keep the maximum possible distance between the bedrooms in order to maintain their privacy.

The openings are studied and placed in a way to take advantage of the natural light from the South and the natural breeze from the North, keeping the inside atmosphere bright and fresh, avoiding the use of artificial light and air condition units as much as possible.

The north atrium provides natural light and air flow to all the ares of the house.
It's also utilized as aprivate outdoor space for the bedroom 2.
