Antiparos-Milos project: House C

Milos windmill complex consists of three individual family houses.
Located only few minutes walking distance from the port and the main square of Antiparos town, in a quiet area with stunning panoramic views of the nearby islands.
It combines the comfort being next to the town and the quietness of the rural environment.

The concept of the project is based on the principles of vernacular architecture. The climate, the solar path, the existing topography and elements of mediterranean architecture as well as the privacy between the properties were the main guidelines in the process of design.

Due to the site's topography House C is build in two different levels.

Taking advantage of the existing topography the spaces in the lower level are infiltrated into the earth like a retain stone wall while the upper part, in white lime stucco, settles on top.

The living space and the master bedroom in the higher level are designed in the long axe of east-west, in order to provide the inner space with breeze from the north and natural light from the south.

Bedroom 2

The lower level has a direct relationship with the site. By the time the adjacent garden will be grown up it will become a living, extended and still private area for the room's users to relax.

In these spaces due to the thick stone walls, the accurate thermal insulation on the roof and the stable temperature of the earth the temperature is fresh in the summer and warm in the winter.

The dressing area is designed as an open space.

A wind-sun chimney on top of the roof is built to contribute to the best energy performance of the space.
The chimney in the south part has a big fixed window for natural sun light while on the north side an electrical window can open and relish the heat from the inside creating an air flow.

The main terrace of the living space is located in the east to an open wide panoramic view.

Olive trees are planted at the south side to create a natural fence and a small herb garden just in front of the house for cooking use.
